2015 presidency: Group urges Jonathan to contest
From AIDOGHIE PAULINUS, Abuja
A group, Progressive Friends Foundation, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan not to hesitate in contesting the 2015 presidential election.
The group said the call was necessitated by the achievements of the present administration in different sectors. Spokesperson of the group and Rivers State Coordinator of the association, Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa, who spoke in Abuja, said the Jonathan administration had given the economy a new face to development, ranging from the aviation sector to road infrastructure, agriculture, railway, water, education and housing.
“We, the Progressive Friends Foundation, hereby appeal to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to please consider contesting the 2015 general elections in order to consolidate these modest developmental strides.”
“We are urging other people, organizations, interest groups of goodwill and like-passion to persuade our President to contest in the 2015 presidential election,” the forum said.
“We wish to present the journey so far in line with our core values, mission and vision statements of the President. The Lagos-Kano rail line has been rehabilitated, completed and made functional. Port Harcourt–Maiduguri; Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri; Abuja-Idu-Kaduna are between 60 percent to 80 percent completion.”
“The Aviation sector has received massive renovations and improvements of virtually all the airports in Nigeria. Implementation of new aviation rules and guidelines has made our airspace safer.
“The roads have been constructed, rehabilitated, redesigned and completed and the administration has recorded the highest number of road network in this country in the space of two years. The Police Pension Reform is a clear commitment to the welfare of our pensioners. The administration has again demonstrated vision by creating the Sovereign Wealth Fund to secure the future of Nigerians. The signing the Freedom of Information Act (FoI), into law, has demonstrated that the administration is committed to deepening democratic values in Nigeria.”
“The health sector is inching towards the benchmark of actualizing the related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),” the group said.
Nwibubasa said that everything would be done to win the heart of those opposed to re-election of President Jonathan.
