Rivers crisis: Police declare Amaechi’s ADC deserter
From: TONY JOHN, Port Harcourt
The crisis in Rivers State deepened yesterday as the police command declared acting Assistant Suprintendent, Seimeikumo Debewari, the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, a deserter.
This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt and signed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police in- charge of Administration, Augustine Sanomi.
‘The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform, the general public that AP/No. 100659, acting ASP Seimeikumo Debewari, who has ignored all lawful directives to see the Commissioner of Police and the Inspector-General of Police has not been seen either in Rivers State Command or at the Police headquarters since 10th July, 2013.’’
According to the statement, the whereabouts of the governor’s ADC remain unknown to the Nigeria Police Force.
‘And consequently, he ceases to be ADC to Rivers State Governor. As the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command and by the powers conferred on me by Section 398 [1] of the Police Act and Regulation Cap 359, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990, the officer is hereby declared a deserter from Nigeria Police Force subject to the approval of the Inspector-General of Police,’ the statement said.
The ADC was implicated in the July 9 clash at the House of Assembly. The video clips captured the ADC’s role in the fracas, where the Majority Leader, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, allegedly used the mace to batter a member of the House, Michael Chinda.
While Lloyd voluntarily surrendered himself to the police authorities in Abuja, the ADC refused to honour the invitation.
The crisis in the House started with the suspension of five lawmakers said to be against Governor Amaechi.
