Robbers attack Edo police patrol van, kill 3
Suspected armed robbers, yesterday opened fire on the patrol vehicle
of Edo State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), killing two policemen and a
civilian. The policemen were said to be on patrol around Egba Police
Division, near the Benin-Auchi by-pass, when the robbers opened fire on
them.
According to sources, the incident occurred at about 4:30pm when four suspected robbers in a red Volkswagen Passat car, opened fire on the patrol van while overtaking it, killing the two policemen and another occupant of the vehicle.
The bodies of the dead policemen have been deposited in the mortuary.
As at press time, the State Commissioner of Police, Folusho Adebanjo was said to have gone to the scene of the incident for on-the-spot assessment.
Calls made to his mobile phone were not picked. Also, the phone of the police image-maker, DSP Moses Eguavoen could not be reached.
